Sub-MeV spectroscopy with AstroSat-CZT imager for gamma ray bursts

چکیده

Cadmium–Zinc–Telluride Imager (CZTI) onboard AstroSat has been a prolific Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) monitor. While the 2-pixel Compton scattered events (100–300 keV) are used to extract sensitive spectroscopic information, inclusion of low-gain pixels ( $$\sim $$ 20 $$\%$$ detector plane) after careful calibration extends energy range spectra 600 keV. The new feature also allows single-pixel spectroscopy GRBs sub-MeV which is otherwise limited 150 We introduced noise rejection algorithm in analysis (‘Compton noise’). These additions not only enhances sensitivity CZTI, but will allow proper characterization detected by Fermi. This article describes methodology single, event and veto 100–900 keV combined for first year operation. CZTI last five years bright GRBs. methodologies, when applied on spectral this large sample GRBs, potential improve results significantly help better understanding prompt emission mechanism.

Are There MeV Gamma-Ray Bursts?

It is often stated that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have typical energies of several hundred keV, where the typical energy may be characterized by the hardness H , the photon energy corresponding to the peak of νFν . Among the 54 BATSE bursts analyzed by Band et. al. more than half have 100keV < H < 400keV. Is the narrow range of H a real feature of GRBs or is it due to an observational bias? We co...

X-Ray Spectroscopy of Gamma-Ray Bursts

Observational evidence of iron absorption and emission lines in X-ray spectra of Gamma-Ray Bursts is quite compelling. I will briefly review the results, summarize different models and describe the connection with massive progenitors in star-forming regions implied by these results. This link is also supported by measurements of the X-ray absorbing gas in several GRB’s, with column density cons...

Gamma-Ray Bursts with ROSAT

I review the use of ROSAT over the last years for the investigation of well localized gamma-ray burst (GRB) error boxes. In particular, I cover (i) the systematic study of several dozens of IPN locations using the ROSAT All-Sky-Survey data, (ii) results of deep ROSAT pointings of selected small GRB error boxes, (iii) the attempts for and results of quick follow-up observations after GRB events ...

Cosmology with Gamma Ray Bursts

— Apparently, Gamma–Ray Bursts (GRBs) are all but standard candles. Their emission is collimated into a cone and the received flux depends on the cone aperture angle. Fortunately we can derive the aperture angle through an achro-matic steepening of the lightcurve of the afterglow, and thus we can measure the " true " energetics of the prompt emission. Ghirlanda et al. (2004) found that this col...
